2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time / (Old Rite) II Sunday after Epiphany

Church Unity Octave: This week marks the beginning of prayer for Christian Unity. It is worth noting that when this week was first established, it began on the 18th January which, in the old calendar, marked the feast of the Chair of St Peter, clearly indicating that the Catholic Church understands Christian unity as a return of all Christians under the See of Peter and the Pope. In our parish area, we have an active Anglican parish comprising of two churches and a strong Evangelical presence at the Bonneville Church of All Nations. We are also proud of our connections with the Eritrean & Ethiopian Orthodox churches; many of the pupils in our schools are Orthodox.  The children of Fr Yohannes (of St Michael’s in Vauxhall) all attended our schools. The week finishes on the 25th January; the feast of the Conversion of St Paul. This emphasises again the need for all Christians to be united to the See of Rome which has as its patrons’ SS Peter and Paul. “Father, that they may all be one!”

White Flower Appeal: The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children will be holding its annual appeal this weekend. In common with the Catholic Church, SPUC defends and upholds the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death. The Society’s work covers a wide spectrum of pro-life, pro-family issues. It works to protect unborn children from abortion and defends the disabled, elderly and incapacitated from euthanasia and assisted suicide. SPUC also provide trained speakers for schools and offers pro-life support for teachers, parents and medical professionals. Please give generously to this worthy cause which depends entirely on your support.

Senior Altar Servers Meeting: Next Saturday 20th January in the Church.  10am to 12noon.

Young Adults Meeting: Open to all 15-35 year olds.  Friday 19th January 8pm in the club.  Why not come along and bring a friend too.

Parish Catechises: The January gathering will take place on Friday 26th January 8pm in the club.

St Bede's Youth Club: Sundays 4.30-6pm in the club.  Open to all 10-15 year olds.

Cribs & Decorations:  Here at St Bede’s we keep our cribs up until the feast of The Presentation of the Lord which falls on 2nd February – so make the most of the next 3 weeks and take the time to visit.

Crib offerings:  This year nominated charity for crib offerings is the ‘Catholic Children’s Society’. They deliver ‘ConnectEd’ school counselling services across the Diocese of Southwark to help children and families living in emotional and relational poverty as well as delivering the Southwark Crisis Fund to help those in immediate material need. (   Therefore this year we will split the offerings made equally between Good Counsel Network (whom we have sent to for many years) and Catholic Children’s Society.
