Palm Sunday / (Old Rite) II Sunday in Passiontide

Stations of the Cross - Sundays at 5pm

Holy Week:  All of our Sacraments, like satellites around their sun, revolve around the Blessed Sacrament - the Holy Eucharist. In the Liturgy this week, this close dependence is clearly shown: the Easter Vigil is the traditional time for Baptism; on “Spy” Wednesday the Bishop consecrates the Chrism & blesses the Holy Oils which are used at Baptism, Confirmation, Ordination & the Anointing of the Sick. The Mass of the Lord’s Supper is intimately joined to Good Friday. We should all enter into the great 3 Days to understand better our own personal incorporation into Christ’s Paschal Mystery with all its implications! Don’t forget to make the most of this week of weeks. Put your blessed palm behind your crucifix as a sign of the victory of the Cross. Make every effort to come to the “Washing of the Feet” on Maundy Thursday; the “Kissing of the Cross” on Good Friday & the Solemn Easter Vigil with the fire on Holy Saturday night.

Easter Offerings: In the porch & around the sides of the Church are the envelopes for your customary offering at Easter for the resident priests Frs. CB, LH and PS. The Easter offering – plus the one at Christmas – are the only collections that are specifically for the priests. Priests do not get salaries, and rely on the proceeds of the Christmas & Easter Offerings for their main source of income for the year. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

The Good Friday Collection for the Holy Places is used to maintain 74 churches & shrines associated with the life of Jesus. It also helps the work of the Church in the Holy Land & neighbouring countries by the relief of poverty & suffering. Parishes, schools, orphanages & medical centres there rely very much on assistance from the Collection, especially at this difficult time. Gift Aid Donors are asked to place their contribution, in one of the spare green envelopes supplied (writing 'Holy Places' on front); thereby boosting their donation by 25% in tax relief.

Message for Gift Aiders: Don’t forget that you should start using your new box of envelopes from this weekend.

Last week's ENTIRE 9.30 Mass Collection went missing during the Mass from the Sacristy – red bags and all.  If anyone knows anything or saw anything unusual that happened during that Mass, please speak to the priest this weekend.

Confirmation Candidates: are to be involved in this great week. On Spy Wednesday we go to the Chrism Mass at St George’s Cathedral where the oils which will be used in July will be consecrated.  On Maundy Thursday, they will sit behind the 12 Apostles & do the Offertory Procession. On Good Friday, they will sit in the front row. On Holy Saturday night, at the 9pm Vigil (the first Mass of Easter), they help with tapers to light the candles of the congregation.

CTS Stand: We want to make the CTS stand at St. Bede’s work for everyone so please use the catalogue attached to the stand (please do not remove it) and if there any CTS books you want ordered please put them in the CTS Request Box by the stand; include your email and/or ‘phone number so I can contact you when books arrive. (Ann Holder CTS Rep)

Can you help? We are still looking for cooks to do an occasional lunch for OAPs.  Please speak to Fr Chris for more information.

Cleaners for this week: Tricia & Emma Johnson & Regina Curaj.  Please note: the blessing of Easter food and confessions on Saturday.

Bags for the Future: Have you got clothes and shoes you would like to get rid of? Annually, we like to raise funds using bags to the future.  This method allows us to raise funds, reuse clothes & shoes to benefit those who rely on second hand clothes as their sole option for good quality items and finally build a sustainable future by using our resources to further the circular economy. We will be paid 40p per kg. We collect good quality adults and children’s clothing, paired shoes, hats, belts, handbags, ties and soft toys, no uniforms, duvets, pillows or cushions. As we have limited space, fill your bags and drop these off from Saturday 22nd April, they will be picked up by 9am on Friday 28th.

Active Kids Vouchers: It is that time of year again when Sainsbury’s run their ‘Active Kids Voucher Scheme’.  All of our schools are collecting these vouchers so you would like to donate yours, please drop them off at the school or in the envelope at the back of Church.
