1st Sunday of Lent

Stations of the Cross - Sundays at 5pm

Welcome to Fr Michael Creech:  Many of you know Fr Michael who has preached at St Bede’s many times over the last few decades.  Born in Clapham, he is still jogging and two years ago had a church built in Heathfield, Sussex!   He was brought up locally, and as a boy used to serve Mass at the Convent of La Retraite.  In 1952 he entered the Redemptorists and in 1958 he was ordained to the priesthood.  He says “it was a very different Church and a totally different world!”  For decades he was on the Mission team and there are very few parishes that he has not visited in Britain.  I always tease him that he should write a book about the extraordinary parishes (and their clergy!) that he has met.  In the early 90’s, he began a degree and was so successful, that he was asked to stay on for his Masters and to teach the students.  He was a great help to Fr Dinan in his last years here and helped out at St Bede’s until 1996 when he became PP at St Mary’s.  Since then he was supposed to have retired but with such energy he has just completed his second parish in the Diocese of Arundel & Brighton.  He is now resident at St Mary’s.  Fr Michael is so kind and friendly so, take this opportunity to make a good confession for Lent!

Lenten Preachers:

  • Next week: Fr Neil Brett (Upton Park);
  • 19th: Fr Bartek Dudek (Walderslade);
  • 26th (Laetare Sunday): Deacon Xavier Champagne-Deuve (Toulouse)
  • 2nd April: Fr Barry Hallett (Dorchester).
Congratulations: to all those children who made their First Confession yesterday.  The second part of the FHC programme will be handed out in the meeting after 9.30am Mass in Presbytery.

You can also find the Gift Aid form by visiting the "Supporting our Parish" page or CLICK HERE

New Governor Needed: La Retraite is looking for a new school governor.  Anyone interested in the mission of a governor should not be put off by a lack of experience; appropriate training is available during the period of service.  Any potential governor is initially invited to serve as an Associate Governor, which allows experience of the role before making a more formal commitment.  If you would like to know more about the role and arrange a visit, please contact Valerie Avenell, our school secretary (schsec@laretraite.lambeth.sch.uk

Outstanding Masses: A number of the Masses left over from last year and some received this year have now been given to either Mgr Leo or sent to Fr John Bosco in Wales (who visited us a couple of weekends ago).  Some of the Tridentine intentions have been given to Fr Gabriel Diaz as he also needs Masses.
