Second Sunday (Old Rite: II Sunday after Epiphany)

Church Unity Octave: This week marks the beginning of prayer for Christian Unity. It is worth noting that when this week was first established, it began on the 18th January which, in the old calendar, marked the feast of the Chair of St Peter, clearly indicating that the Catholic Church understands Christian unity as a return of all Christians under the See of Peter and the Pope. In our parish area, we have an active Anglican parish comprising of two churches and a strong Evangelical presence at the Bonneville Church of All Nations. We are also proud of our connections with the Eritrean & Ethiopian Orthodox churches; many of the pupils in our schools are Orthodox.  The children of Fr Yohannes (of St Michael’s in Vauxhall) all attended our schools. The week finishes on the 25th January; the feast of the Conversion of St Paul. This emphasises again the need for all Christians to be united to the See of Rome which has as its patrons’ SS Peter and Paul. “Father, that they may all be one!”

Crib Offerings:  This year, with the encouragement of Archbishop Peter, all parishes have been asked to donate crib offerings to ‘Friends of the Holy Land’. Every penny will help the poorest Christian families, especially in & around Bethlehem, the West Bank, Gaza and Israel, with education, employment, health & housing costs and initiatives. FHL is non-political and ecumenical. Therefore, this year we will split the offerings made equally between Good Counsel Network (whom we have sent them to for many years) and Friends of the Holy Land.

First Holy Communion Programme 2017: The programme begins today, starting with the 9.30am Mass and followed by a meeting with Mrs Keane & Mrs Marshall. The First Confessions will take place on Saturday 4th March & First Communions will be on 11th June.
