Fourth Sunday (Old Rite: IV Sunday after Epiphany)

Change to Mass times this week: Friday 3rd February - no 9am Mass.  At 9.40 we will have the first of our school's Federation Masses.  We will also have our regular 'First Friday' events - Recollection for Ladies from 9.30-11.30 in the club, or you are welcome to join the school Mass and Polish Mass at 3.45pm.

Presentation / Purification: The feast of the Presentation of the Lord and the Purification of Our Lady marks the definitive end of the Christmas season. This day, also called Candlemas, could be described as the Christian festival of light.  The candles are blessed and we process with them lighted singing the words of Simeon: (the Nunc Dimittis) “At last all powerful Master you give leave your servant to go in peace, according to your promise. For my eyes, have seen your Salvation which you have prepared for all nations, the LIGHT to enlighten the Gentiles and give glory to Israel, your people.”
How easy it is for us to take for granted the light of Christ which we are privileged to possess. This light however is given us to share!

St Blaise:  This Friday - blessing of the throats.

Bazaar Totals: We now have a final figure for the Bazaar, and thanks to all the hard work of everyone involved, we made £12,354.  Copies of the totals for the stalls are available at the back of Church and also pinned to the noticeboards.

Recently Deceased: So far this month we have had notification of the following:
  • Dorothy Miller (Fr Chris' aunt) died on 7th.  Her Requiem Mass will be on Monday 6th February at 11.30am.
  • Tony Frost: died on 13th.  He was a long time parishioner of St Bede's from Cavendish Road.  He moved to be nearer his family a few years ago.  Over the years, he was Governor at our school, a huge part of the Social Club and the bazaar.  His Requiem will be on Thursday 9th February at 11am.
  • Margo Richardson (originally from Egypt) who passed away last Saturday.  She has lived in the area for decades and worked at St Bernadette School. Her Requiem will be held here at St Bede’s on Wednesday 22nd February.
  • Carmell Davis (originally from Jamaica), who passed on Tuesday.  She was a stalwart of the UCM and always prepared the votive candles before 9.30.  Her Requiem will be on Monday 27th February
  • Canon Charles Walker, long time Diocesan chaplain of African & Caribbean community died on Thursday. More information can be found on the Diocesan website.
Fr Lukasz will be back with us on Friday.

Fr Tom Uzhunnalil: Please pray every day for this poor Salesian priest from India who was kidnapped by ISIS in Yemen last March after they murdered several of Mother Teresa’s sisters.  On the internet, you can see how disturbed he is with good reason.

Could you help us find a flat or house in London?  It would be, God willing, for one month during the Summer. We would like a place with 3 (or 2 if necessary) bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom & living room - for a married couple with four children.

Open Day Fair - St Francis Xavier 6th Form College: On Wednesday 1st February from 4pm to 6pm.  This is another opportunity for prospective students who are looking to continue their studies into the 6th form (Year 12) in September 2017 to come and visit the college (with a parent) to meet staff and students; hear the Principal speak and of course, pick up a prospectus!  You can even start an application online.  Please see the flyer at the back of Church for more information.

London Evenings of Faith- February & March 2017: All are welcome to a series of talks on 'Reasons for believing’ which will take place at 7:30pm on alternate Tuesdays from 7th February 2017 (subsequent talks are on Tuesday 21st February, 7th March & 21st March). Talks are held in the basement of 24 Golden Square, London W1F 9JR (Tube: Piccadilly Circus). Full dates and details are available at

Outstanding Masses from 2016: There are still over 100 Masses still unassigned from last year and we are trying to fit these in as soon as we possibly can whilst still trying to accommodate current requests for anniversaries and those who are really ill.  Therefore we ask for your patience and understanding, and bear with us until at least the end of March.  In these circumstances, when a parish has such an excess, we are supposed to send to other parishes, but we will try to say as many as we can in St Bede's.
