15th Sunday of Ordinary Time (Old Rite: VIII Sunday after Pentecost)

For this week's Masses - Click Here

July - the month of the Precious Blood: The month of June, which is traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart, was a washout. The rains were positively tropical! Please God we can now have some sunny and dry weather! Although St Bede’s was built in 1906 and opened for worship on April 27th of that year (do you remember April 27th 2006 when Archbishop Kevin McDonald came for our Centenary, the school hall was full of food and some fantastic cakes – hint hint, next week!)  Why was it that the Church was not solemnly consecrated until July 1st 1969?  Can any of you remember Archbishop Corduroy coming to anoint the walls that day with sacred Chrism? I can’t find anything in the archives about it but of course in those days, you couldn’t consecrate a Church until you had entirely paid for it!

Mgr Leo's Diamond Jubilee of Ordination: Next Sunday, 12noon in St Bede’s School Hall. There are lists in the Church for you to bring cold salads, hot food and desserts. Mgr Leo will be at the Spanish Mass on Saturday; the next day he will be at the 9.30 and 11am, then we will go into the hall for lunch. Please help by signing up on the lists.

Thank You: to the Gospel Choir of La Retraite who sang magnificently with our own Choir. Thanks for all who supported Mr Malins Induction Mass and all those who helped the Confirmation candidates in their formation and preparation.

Today is Sea Sunday: when the Church prayers for all those who live & work at sea. Without them we would not have most of the items we buy in the shops. Today’s second collection is for the Apostleship of the Sea (AoS), the Church’s official maritime welfare agency. It supports seafarers both practically & spiritually. This annual collection is absolutely vital to enable it to continue to work, so please give generously and remember seafarers in your prayers.
