2nd Sunday of Lent

Stations of the Cross: 5pm Sundays in Lent

Welcome to Fr Mark Higgins: Fr. Mark Higgins grew up in Carshalton and went to the John Fisher School, Purley. Upon leaving there he studied Politics at Warwick University from which he graduated in 2007. He then spent a year in the English College in Valladolid, Spain, followed by a job at a call centre in Coventry. Thereafter, he spent six years in formation for the priesthood at St John’s Seminary in Wonersh. He was ordained to the priesthood with Fr Matthew O’Gorman (who was an Advent preacher at St Bede’s) in 2015 and appointed as Assistant Priest at St Andrew’s, Thornton Heath.

Lenten Extra Daily Mass: During Lent we are encouraged to do something extra spiritually. Weekday Mass is one of the most straightforward and beneficial ways to do this. Advantages? The Blessed Sacrament, the Word of God, some peace and quiet, a challenge and audit for us who hardly have time to think, time to pray  and being with others! Make the most of the many opportunities you have here at St Bede’s.

Lenten Reflection: Over the weeks of Lent the Archdiocese of Southwark's Stewardship Team, in collaboration with the diocesan Spirituality Commission, will send daily reflections featuring thoughts, Scripture and prayer. If you would like to receive these please visit http://eepurl.com/bF0b6P.  Below is the reflection for today - 2nd Sunday of Lent:

2nd Sunday of Lent
 21st February 2016

‘It is wonderful for us to be here.’
(Luke 9:33)
Today we hear an account of the Transfiguration.  It reminds us of who Jesus is and what love he showed in becoming human.  It leaves us with the simple question – what more could Jesus have done to show the strength of God’s love for humanity?  Over two thousand years, we have perhaps lost a sense of the scale of what God did.  Certainly, for many of us, our response does not truly match the generosity of God and the gifts he has given to us.
  • Today, try to keep God’s generous love in mind and respond in the light of that love.
