1st Sunday in Lent

For this week's Masses - Click Here
Stations of the Cross: 5pm Sundays in Lent

Welcome to Fr Martin Edwards: He was born in Beckenham and was educated at the Challoner School and later at St Andrew’s University in Scotland. Sensing a vocation he went to the famous Seminary of Econne in Switzerland founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre who had been the Superior General of the Holy Ghost Fathers, the Papal delegate and Bishop for all of French West Africa and a unique contributor at the Second Vatican Council. Anticipating full reconciliation with the Holy See which did not happen led Fr Martin providentially to Rome in the mid 80’s. Studying at the English College and the Angelicum (where Fr Andrew is now), he was ordained in 1991. Since then he has served in Tunbridge Wells, Tooting Bec, South Norwood and is now the Parish Priest of St Mary Magdalene’s, Wandsworth East Hill. He is also the national chaplain for Aid to the Church in Need. (Fr CB is in Wandsworth)

Lenten Extra Daily Mass: St Bede’s has more regular Masses than many a Cathedral and most parishes. These Masses are for YOU, especially in Lent! Make the most of the Bread of Life, the Word of God, some time of peace and a way to achieve the harmony of a balanced life.

Lenten Reflection: Lenten Reflection: Over the weeks of Lent the Archdiocese of Southwark's Stewardship Team, in collaboration with the diocesan Spirituality Commission, will send daily reflections featuring thoughts, Scripture and prayer. If you would like to receive these please visit http://eepurl.com/bF0b6P.  Below is the reflection for today - 1st Sunday of Lent:

1st Sunday of Lent
 14th February 2016

‘Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit through the wilderness, being tempted there by the devil for forty days.’
Our Sunday Lent readings this year begin with an account of Jesus’ time being tested.  Luke tells us that Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness where he was tempted by Satan. However, Jesus did not rely on his own human strength to overcome temptation. He relied on the Holy Spirit to give him strength, wisdom, courage, and self-control. We too are given the Holy Spirit to help us in our weakness and to be our guide in times of testing.
  • Today, become aware of the choices you make, both small and large, and reflect on your reasons for making them.
  • Are you acting in line with your faith and seeking help from the Holy Spirit, or are you being tempted?
