Convent Mass: is now at 8.30am Monday to Saturday

Jubilee Year of Mercy - 8th December 2015 to 20th November 2016.  On 8 December, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Pope Francis opened a Holy Year of Mercy. Pope Francis desires that the year ‘will be steeped in mercy, so that we can go out to every man and woman, bringing the goodness and tenderness of God! May the balm of mercy reach everyone, both believers and those far away, as a sign that the Kingdom of God is already present in our midst!’ (Bull of Indiction 5) The Year will close with the liturgical Solemnity of Christ the King on 20 Nov. 
There are events planned by the Southwark Catholic Youth Service including: 

  • 4–5th March: “24 Hours for the Lord”: Pilgrimage to the Holy Door of Mercy St. George’s Cathedral, Southwark. United in adoration and prayer across the world, the 24 hours will start with Mass at 12:30pm. At 7.30pm we will have evening prayer to start a night of music, art, film, prayer and reflection led by SCYS. The sacrament of reconciliation will be available.  Throughout the night we will have activities available in Amigo Hall.
  • 19th March: ‘Born for This’: A powerful and moving depiction of the Stations of the Cross presented by young people from the diocese at Aylesford Priory.  
  • 24th April: 'I Believe':  Pilgrimage to the Holy Door of Mercy St. George’s Cathedral, Southwark. Join Archbishop Peter Smith for an afternoon of catechesis, testimony, prayer and music. Meet other young catholics as we reflect on the faces of mercy in our lives. 3pm – 5pm, followed by refreshments in The Amigo Hall.  The event is for those Confirmed, or to be Confirmed in the Year of Mercy
  • 26–31st July: World Youth Day event in Krakow, Poland. Open to all young persons 18+ See fr Pawel for application form.

Jubilee Year of Mercy - Prayer & Study Day: on Saturday 30th January 2016, 10:30am – 4:00pm, at the Centre for Catholic Formation, 21 Tooting Bec Road, SE17 8BS. Cost £5 including light Lunch. Please register at the CCF (office@ccftootingbec.org.uk or 020 8672 7684). Nearest tube Tooting Bec; also ample car parking.

Bags for Life: Do you have any good quality second hand clothing? If you do please pick up a bag at the back of Church and fill it. Drop your full bag off on this within the next few days. Our consignment will be picked up on this Friday (29th January at 9am). We are paid by weight so the more clothes you donate the more we raise. The funds will go towards the bazaar effort.

Special Sunday - 11am Mass:  Sung by Cantores Missae under the direction of Mr Charles Finch, our traditional Latin Mass today will include the following music. 

  • Ordinary: Missa O magnum mysterium (Tomas Luis de Victoria); 
  • Offertory: Simile est regnum (Cristobal Morales); 
  • Communion: Pange lingua (Tomas Luis de Victoria); 
  • After the last Gospel: Alma Redemptoris Mater (Giovanni Perluigi da Palestrina).  
The next Special Sunday will be on February 14th – 1st Sunday of Lent.

Fr Christopher: has been travelling in Egypt for the last week or so and has seen fr Athanasius in Assyut and Fr Andrawes' Bishop in Minya. In Cairo he met fr Romany who is returning to his Diocese of Sohag after helping a parish in Cairo for a year. The Family Fast monies are distributed and many thanks and greetings are sent to all at St Bede's. fr CB will be back later this week.

Helpers of God's Precious Infants - Upcoming Processions: The next two processions will take place on Saturday 30th January at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Brixton (starting with Mass at 10am) and on Saturday 13th February at St Margaret’s Church in Twickenham (starting with Mass at 9am and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 9.40).  Please see the posters for more information.  
 


Walsingham Retreat 27 - 30th May:  Please find attached Invite\ Booking Form and Provisional Programme for the retreat in Walsingham.  We have only been able to book 30 places, so if you wish to come (and we hope you do!), please get in touch as soon as you can.

Music Day at St Matthew's, West Norwood: On Saturday 30th January, St Matthew’s Church is holding a Music Day for Holy Week from 11am to 4pm. The music will be conducted by Fr Anthony’s sister Susan. Everyone is welcome to attend.


St Francis Xavier 6th Form College: is seeking a foundation governor. This is a voluntary role for a practising Catholic who has the time to attend and participate in at least three full Board evening meetings each year and, ideally, also serve on a governors’ committee. The governors are particularly keen (but not exclusively) to hear from a volunteer with experience in Human Resources management.
