Welcome to Mrs Cathy Davis:  who is here today to see her past pupils receive the sacrament of Confirmation through the ministry of Bishop Patrick Lynch.  Congratulations on her recent appointment to the Head of St Anne’s School, Vauxhall.  We will miss you very much but know you are very much up to the challenge.

Welcome to:  Mrs Deborah Hogan, Head of St Bernadette, Mrs Sarah Driver, Lay Chaplain of La Retraite and Ms Sarai Sarpi, Head of RE at La Retraite.  They are all here for Confirmation.

Fr Lukasz away for the summer:  He is returning to Poland to finish his Masters and graduate.  In July he will do a supply in South Ashford before returning to St Bede’s in September for two years whilst he studies for his PhD.

Bishop Richard Moth:  On Thursday he will be installed as the new Bishop of Arundel and Brighton.  Until now he was the Ordinary for the military and before that he was Vicar General and Chancellor in Southwark.  After his ordination in 1982, his first parish was St Bede’s!  Fr Christopher and Mrs Maggie Keane (President of our UCM) will represent the parish on Thursday.

Youth Mission 2nd - 12th July: We have a Mission team coming from the newly founded (1980’s) congregation of the Incarnate Word.  Two priests, one deacon, four sisters and five seminarians are coming and we need some volunteers to help give the seminarians’ bed and breakfast (the priests and nuns will stay in the presbytery and convent).  We also need some help with cooking and lunches in between those two dates.

St Bede the Venerable (673-735) is our heavenly patron and tomorrow is his feast.  We pray that he may obtain for us the grace to observe our faith as he did with joy and enthusiasm.  The chronicles of the time testify him being “one of the most observant and happy of Monks”.  May he, in the communion of Saints, by the power of the Holy Spirit teach us this simple lesson: that happiness is the fruit of observance of taking daily care to love both God and neighbour.

Bible Alive available in Audio Version: We have been informed by a parishioner that a charity called Galloways in Preston produces the Bible Alive in an audio version for those who have sight impaired.  It comes on 2 CDs, and is sent approximately 10 days prior to the beginning of the month.  Each day contains one reading and the mediation.  It is free of charge, however a donation is appreciated.  Tel: 01772 744 148

'Pray, Play & Tumble': St Bede's Bank Holiday Fun - Monday 25th May, 11am.  Our meeting point is Balham triangle swings, Cavendish Road.  Pray play and outdoors fun together.  Families, singles, carers, children and grown ups all welcome.  Contact Susan Palmer (07949669297, to let her know you are coming and/or just in case there needs to be any last minute change of plan.

Lourdes - 2015 Diocesan Pilgrimage: The Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes (with the Catholic Association) will take place this year from Fri 21st–Fri 28th August. This year’s theme is ‘Joy of Mission', taken from the Evangelii Gaudium. 2015 is a special year for us in the Diocese of Southwark. Archbishop Peter mentioned in the Foreword in this year’s Southwark Directory - “This year marks a milestone on our diocesan journey as we celebrate 50 years as our diocese was raised to an ‘Archdiocese and Metropolitan See’ ”.

Lough Derg - A Place of Pilgrimage:  Lough Derg, the sacred Sanctuary of St Patrick, is very much a living part of Irish Christian Heritage. A unique island, rich in prayer and faith, an island which has been calling pilgrims for over a thousand years, an island which St Patrick himself was called to.  For many people Lough Derg provides an opportunity to step back from their lives, to take stock and examine the direction which their lives are taking. For many others it is a time to come closer to God through prayer and reflection.
