4th Sunday of Lent (Mothering Sunday / Laetare Sunday)

Welcome back and Congratulations to Sister Carol Cardenas: who made her First Profession last Saturday in Madrid. She has come home to visit her family before returning to the Ciudad Real in Spain to continue with her studies. When a young woman leaves home & gets married, we tell the parents “you haven’t lost a daughter, you have gained a son”.  When a young woman leaves home & joins the convent we tell the parents “you haven’t lost a daughter, you have gained a family!” That family is the religious congregation of the ‘Siervas de Maria’ (the H&maids of Mary). They are an international congregation of religious Sisters with communities in the USA, Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, Philippines & Europe. The Sisters are ministers to the sick & dying.  In that distressing sight they see the suffering Christ as he warned us in the Gospel, “what you did to the least of these my brethren, you did unto me”.  The Sisters always return home to nurse their own parents when elderly or sick. In 6 years, God willing, Sister Carol will make her final Profession & receive the ring. We congratulate her family & her former school, La Retraite. We rejoice that after Tom Lynch’s ordination in 2013, we now have a Profession in 2015.  Pray for them both & pray for vocations to marriage, ordination & consecration!

Welcome to Fr Stephen Morrison O.Praem: He is a member of the Norbertine Order (Premonstratensian Canons Regular) based in Chelmsford, where his community run 2 large parishes. He was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood on 6th Dec 14 by the new Bishop of Brentwood. His jobs now include school chaplaincy, teaching & catechesis, liturgical music & various pastoral roles as curate in the parishes of Chelmsford. Before ordination his studies took him to France at Chavagnes where Ferdia McDermott & numerous members of St Bede’s community have visited & worked, (it was then he first came to know St Bede's), Oxford, London & Rome. He is delighted to be back at St Bede's in this first year of his priesthood, & asks your prayers for the Norbertines' continued zealous work of converting their little corner of Our Lady's Dowry back to the True Faith.

Lenten Extra Daily Mass St Bede’s has more regular Masses than many a Cathedral and most parishes. These Masses are for you, especially in Lent.  Make the most of the Bread of Life, the Word of God, some time of peace and a way to achieve the harmony of a balanced life.

Stations of the Cross: Every Sunday during Lent at 5pm

Laetare/Mothering Sunday: Today we are at the mid point of Lent and Mother Church allows us to relax a little from the fast with flowers on the altar and the organ being played.  The liturgical colour is softened from violet to rose and the Mass begins with the words “Laetare Jerusalem” (Rejoice Jerusalem…).  We contemplate the motherhood of the Church which is exemplified by our Blessed Lady herself.  On this day we honour all Mothers and pray for them whether they are living or dead.  We pay tribute to all of you who have worked hard to bring up children as this is the most important job in human society.  God bless our Mothers!

Special Sunday - 10.45 Mass today: Ordinary: Missa Simile est regnum (Vittoria) Offertory: Sancta Maria (Guerrero). Communion: Venite comedite (Byrd). Recession: Ave regina caelorum (Guerrero).Sung by Cantores Missae under the direction of Charles Finch.

Next Special Sunday: 19 Apr (Good Shepherd Sunday).
