Feast of the Epiphany (Old Rite: Most Holy Name of Jesus)

Thank You: the priests would all like to thank you for your cards, gifts and Christmas offerings.

Epiphany:  This word refers to the twelfth day of Christmas and traditionally the Christmas festivities and decorations remain up until this date.  The word Epiphany means “manifestation” in Greek.  At the Nativity no one really knew about the birth of Christ.  When the three wise men came “the whole of Jerusalem” knew that something had happened in Bethlehem.  The visit of the Magi from beyond the confines of Judaism heralded the universality or “Catholicity” of the Church.  We at St Bede’s are a marvellous example of this universality with so many different national origins.  The other important meaning for us is that the feast urges us to carry the beautiful and comforting message of Christianity into the ordinary life of the people we meet!

Christmas Again! According to the Julian calendar (which lags behind our Gregorian calendar), Christmas Day is January 7th.  Our Eritrean & Ethiopian parishioners (in union with the Christians in Egypt) mark this day and some will be up all night.  Our Mass for them will be on January 11th at 12.30pm followed by a reception.

Fr Christopher: is in Egypt this week for Coptic Christmas.  He hopes to see Fr Athansius and Fr Romany.

Feast of the Epiphany (Old Rite): Tuesday 6th January - there will be Masses at 7am and at 10.45am (sung).

Ruth Real RIP:  Funeral (old rite) will take place at St Raphael's Church in Surbition on Monday January 5th at 11am.  The address of the Church is Portsmouth Road, Kingston-upon-Thames, KT1 2NA
Denis Doogan RIP: Funeral will be held at St Bede's on Friday 9th January at 10.30am.  The 9am Mass will be cancelled on this day.  His body will be received into the Church the afternoon before at 4.30pm.
Bunty Brooks RIP:  Funeral will be held on Monday 12th January at St Peter's Church in Shoreham-by-Sea at 11am.  The address of the Church is West Street, Shoreham-by-Sea, BN43 5WG.
Dana Bobula:  of New Park Road died on the morning of Christmas Day at Kings College Hospital. RIP.  As soon as arrangements have been made for her funeral we will let you know.
