1st Sunday of Advent

Advent: You and I live in time and space.  When we die our souls move into an eternal dimension.  Our Blessed Lord quotes the Old Testament and says “Eye has not seen nor ear heard nor has it entered into the heart of man the glories the Lord has prepared for those who love him.”  We are all like babes in the womb with no understanding of eternity.  However Advent is a season which Mother Church uses to remind us, her children, to make the most of the time we have.  The Saints, especially Francis of Assisi have exulted in the marvellous beauty of creation – the space in which we now live.  Advent warns us to use our hearts to perceive the graces which come to us in time.  2014 years ago our Lord was born; some time in the future he will come again. This month open your heart and perceive his advent in all the circumstances of our lives!

Thank you for the Bazaar: A huge effort has been made by so many of you.  Thank you for all your hard work – especially all that goes on behind the scenes - the UCM who beaver away for weeks ahead of the bazaar - sorting through all the donations, pricing items and then manning several of the stalls on the actual days; the chefs and all the parishioners who make the food for the Bistro and Christmas Dinner and the servers; Harman Ross for organising and Caroline & Ray Casey for selling the Grand Draw tickets; the money counters who stay behind well after the bazaar is finished so that we can have a rough estimate of the profit made by the Sunday Masses; all the cake makers; the men who come to do the heavy lifting - setting up tables and carrying endless boxes down to the school; and for all those we have forgotten to mention!   Many of us are weary but a big thanks to all.

Grand Draw today: One of the largest components of the Bazaar profit comes from the Grand Draw. Today at 1.45 in the club we have the Grand Draw when the winning tickets will be revealed.  I hope it is you!

Fr Michael Creech C.Ss.R: He was raised in Clapham; he served Mass as a boy at La Retraite and was ordained by Archbishop Cowderoy in October 1958 for the Redemptorists.  He joined the mission team and for three decades preached in almost every parish in the UK as well as aboard.  Then earning distinctions in History at King’s, London, he became Parish Priest of St Mary’s, Clapham and afterwards in Surrey in Sussex.  He is now trying to retire.  He supplied here 1994 to 1996.
Don’t forget to go to Confession as he will be available for all of us this weekend.
