23rd Sunday OT (Old Rite: XIII Sunday after Pentecost)

Back to School: Welcome back staff and pupils after one of the hottest summers for years.  All of our fruit trees are so over laden with fruit that it looks a bit like the Garden of Eden!  Anymore volunteers to make jam for the bazaar?  Congratulations to La Retraite on their very good examination results.  We welcome especially our new pupils in all four schools.  May you have a blessed and fruitful new term.

Condolences: Our hearts go out to the Iesini and Silva families who live just across the road from St Bede’s on Kings Avenue.  Their first cousin Palmira Silva was decapitated this past Thursday.  As yet we do not know how there can be any motive but let us support them with our prayers and Masses.

Bazaar Meeting: This coming Thursday – September 11th we will have a short kick-off meeting at 8.30pm in the social club.  Bazaar dates this year are Friday 28th and Saturday 29th November just before Advent.

Daphne McLeod: former Headmistress of Little St Joseph’s, Crystal Palace, has for many years been Madam Chairman of the Pro -Ecclesia Movement which has bravely battled against inadequate Catechesis in our schools and sacramental programmes.  It is said that over 90% of our Catholic pupils abandon the practice of their faith.  While one agrees that the contemporary culture is opposed to our Gospel values and that family life is weak, the quality of Religious Education is also responsible for this apostasy.  Next week, we will give thanks to Daphne at the 10.45 Mass as she hands the torch over to Graham Moorhouse, one of our loyal and generous members.

Collection for Iraqi Christians: The situation of our fellow Christians in Iraq (many Chaldean Catholics, others are Orthodox) is really terrible.  Next weekend we will have a collection for them through Aid to the Church in Need which has recently been acclaimed by Prince Charles.  The UCM will have a coffee morning after the Masses on Sunday 28th.

Welcome to Fr Marco Laguna Costano, OSA & Fr Paul Hruby: The former is an Augustinian Friar from Bolivia (now in Rome) and is here to learn English for a month.  The latter is from Newbury Park near LA in California, where our Sisters have three convents, one of them in his parish.  Fr CB met him last Advent on sabbatical and now Fr Paul on sabbatical is preparing to walk the Camino in Spain.

Fr Simon is in Australia for a month – back on 3rd October.

Congratulations: to Paul Holloway & Anna Cruzado Sanders who got married here at St Bede’s on 16th August, and Javier Gonzalez-Castro and Stephanie Caley who were married in Spain a few weeks ago.  God bless you all.

Welcome to God's Church: Rodrigo Ivan Martinez, son of Gonzalo and Nieves and Albert Jean-Eric Penfold, son of Matthew and Michelle who were baptised over the summer.
