Feast of SS Peter & Paul

Corpus Christi Procession - 3pm today:  After all the great Feasts of the year ranging from Christmas to Easter to Pentecost ending in the celebration of the sublime Trinity, we come to Corpus Christi (19th June in the Old Rite and 22nd June in the New Rite).  In this feast we see the outpouring of the love of God for us in the Eucharist.  The Manna of old kept the first people of God on their way through unexpected and bewildering terrains.  Today we honour the Lord by the greatest procession of the year.  Our First Communicants and those recently confirmed will lead the way with the Scouts, trumpets and drum. Come and honour the Lord passing through your parish!  Today the King of Kings comes through our own streets and we accompany Him; walking with the Lord.  Processions have a meaning in that we walk together in the same direction.  In other words it sums up our whole Christian life which we live with others and for others, always conscious of the direction of our lives which is of course the Kingdom of Heaven.

Ordinations 2014: Last year we rejoiced in the ordination of Tom Lynch from St Bede’s (among several others).  This year Deacon Joseph originally from Ghana and now living at St Francis, Larkhall Lane in Stockwell is to be ordained on July 20th – we hope he will come and diaconate with Monsignor Leo next week at the 12.30 Mass.
Assisted Dying Bill - Please write to a member of the House of Lords: The Bill to legalise "assisted dying” - meaning assisted suicide - will be debated in the House of Lords on 18th July 2014. There will be a free vote because it is not government legislation. If passed, this Bill would place vulnerable people at serious risk. Especially if you have direct experience of caring for a dying person, either as a family member or as a health or social care professional, please write before 18th July to a Peer to tell them your views.  For more information, including details of how to write to a Peer, please visit  It is very important to write as soon as possible and certainly before 18th July.
100 years between them: Philomena Barretto of Copthorne Road and Tony Frost of Cavendish Road have both moved out of the parish with 50 years + at St Bede’s!  Philomena has gone to Shirley and Tony to Dorking.  Goodbye, thank you for all – God bless.  You will be missed very much!

Congratulations to Mary McCarthy who celebrated her 96th birthday at the UCM last Thursday.

Congratulations: to Laura Guga and David Voyce who were married in Sunningdale near Windsor last Friday by Fr Christopher B.  They will live at Scrutton Close for a while before hopefully moving to Brixton Hill.
