6th Sunday of Easter / St Bede (Old Rite: V Sunday after Easter)

May - The month of Our Lady: This beautiful month with blossoms, flowers and magnificence of colour is dedicated to our Blessed Lady.  St Bernadette of Lourdes said “nothing down here can compare to the beauty which I have seen”.  The natural beauty of spring and summer is a foreshadowing of the Testament; our Blessed Lady is seen in the midst of the Apostles and early Christians praying for the gift of the Holy Spirit.  In the same way we follow the example of Mary, Mother of the Lord in praying for the graces that each of us need.

St Bede the Venerable (673-735) is our heavenly patron and today is his feast (Tuesday in the Old Rite). On Tuesday we will celebrate his feast at both Masses.  We pray that he may obtain for us the grace to observe our faith as he did with joy and enthusiasm.  The chronicles of the time testify him being “one of the most observant and happy of Monks”.  May he, in the communion of Saints, by the power of the Holy Spirit teach us this simple lesson: that happiness is the fruit of observance which entails daily discipline.

‘Special Sunday’:  At the 10.45am Mass.  Sung by Cantores Missae, under the direction of Mr Charles Finch and financially sponsored by the Latin Mass Society.

Welcome to Fr Ivor Netto SDB, who will be making the Annual Mission Appeal on behalf of Salesians of Don Bosco.   Please be as generous as you can.

Welcome to God's Church: Max Timothy Davis, son of Jack and Kelly who was baptised last Saturday by Fr Simon.
