4th Sunday of Easter (Old Rite III Sunday after Easter)

May - The month of Our Lady: This beautiful month with blossoms, flowers and magnificence of colour is dedicated to our Blessed Lady.  St Bernadette of Lourdes said “nothing down here can compare to the beauty which I have seen”.  The natural beauty of spring and summer is a foreshadowing of the Testament; our Blessed Lady is seen in the midst of the Apostles and early Christians praying for the gift of the Holy Spirit.  In the same way we follow the example of Mary, Mother of the Lord in praying for the graces that each of us need.

May Crowning & Procession - Next Sunday: At 12.30 there will be a “bring & share” lunch in the club.  At 2pm Our Lady’s statue will be crowned and the procession will move out of the Church, praying the Holy Rosary.  Upon re-entering, the Litany of Loreto will be sung and the devotions will conclude with Benediction.  

African & Caribbean Mass to honour Our Lady is on Sunday 18th May at 12.30pm.  All are welcome.

Diocesan Evangelisation Conference: ‘Go and Announce the Gospel of the Lord’. A one-day conference in each area of the Diocese to reflect on the Papal Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium and to discuss the ways of evangelising in our parishes. The South East London area conference will be held on Friday 30th May at St Matthew Academy, Blackheath.  The day begins at 11.30am with registration and coffee and ends with Mass at 4pm.  The day is free and lunch will be provided.  If you would like to attend please speak to Fr Simon.   

Justice & Peace Spring Assembly – “Solidarity with the Poor” Saturday 17th May at Holy Innocents Primary School, Mitchell Road, Orpington BR6 9JT 10.30-4.00.  Excellent speakers plus stalls and opportunities to share ideas. Drinks provided, bring own lunch.  Free - all welcome.

Conscience and the NHS: The Annual Conference of the Catholic Medical Association.  A one day conference on 17th May at Ealing Abbey, followed by the AGM of the Catholic Medical Association on 18th May. Vocations Weekend for young women (20s and 30s):  The weekend is organised by the sisters, Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ) and the theme is 'Discerning God's Call in my life'.  Friday 23rd - Sunday 25th May in Broadstairs, Kent.   There will be input from the FCJ sisters on different aspects of vowed life, and time for prayer, reflection and discussion with other young women who are also considering a vocation to religious life.  It's an opportunity to live community life for a weekend and meet some sisters!  For more information contact Sr Lynne fcJ at or visit our website
