24th Sunday OT (Old Rite: XVII Sunday after Pentecost)

Meville Camille 1939 – 2013.  Meville was born in the Seychelles and came to England in 1958 with his parents and brother, René, and settled on Haverhill Road where they began going to Mass at St Bede’s. During Fr William Dinan’s time here, the Curate at the time, Fr William Hebborn (now at St Anslem’s, Tooting Bec), asked Meville to begin serving the daily Mass.  Gradually he became Sacristan and looked after the Orders and money boxes.  Aside from his physical strength he was a devoted man of prayer, and was here at the Church every morning early to meditate on the Stations of the Cross and set up for the two morning Masses & served at the 8am Sunday Mass every week.  Unbeknownst to all of us he was carrying a tumour which burst and caused poison to his whole system. The staff at St George’s Intensive Care did everything they could and despite rallying a little last week and recognising his visitors from here he left this life in the wee hours of Tuesday 10th September.  Meville will be sorely missed by everyone in the parish - May he Rest In Peace.

Annual Bazaar 29th/30th November: Every year we have this big effort at fundraising to cover the £13,500 the Diocesan tax us (much of it goes towards school development).  It is a huge amount and I do earnestly ask you to think seriously what YOU can do to help us to approximate that challenging total.  We are looking for good articles and good ideas as well (but please no jumble!).  Last week we had the first planning meeting and October 14th at 8pm is the next.

Mothers & Toddlers Group: Katie Hunt is looking to start up the Mothers & Toddlers group again on Monday Mornings.  If you interested in joining this group, please give your name to Fr CB

OFSTED: Our Staff at St Bernadette’s are weary this weekend after having had the OFSTED inspection on Thursday & Friday.  Pray for a favourable outcome!  Now all of our schools have been through this inspection recently and we can get back to the real business of teaching and learning.  The Diocesan inspection of RE in the school will no longer automatically follow the OFSTED as in the past.
