23rd Sunday OT (Old Rite: XVI Sunday after Pentecost)

What a Summer! Thanks be to God for such a beautiful sunny summer!  With the ordination of Tom Lynch, it has been an unforgettable time for this parish!  He has been appointed to the parish of Tolworth with Canon Anthony Charlton who was one of the first pupils at St Bernadette’s in 1958.  When his Mother died, Mgr Leo and Sister Refugio looked after her.  So a St Bede’s boy has gone to join an old St Bede’s boy!  News from Syria is terrible and the Pope asked for prayer and fasting this past Saturday but if you didn’t hear about it we will have adoration for Syria on Friday evening from 6-9pm and then also we will have the Family Fast collection for the refugees on October 6th.  Very sadly for St Bede’s, our Sacristan, Meville Camille has been in intensive care for two weeks.  Pray for him!  Fr Simon Leworthy is visiting his parents north of Sydney (they are diamond jubilarians this year).  Fr Julian and Fr Andrawos are in Scotland this weekend visiting the monastery of Pluscarden and visiting the Atkinsons in Glasgow. They hope to be back this Saturday.  Meanwhile I hope all of you have had some rest and relaxation during this lovely summer and welcome back.  Fr Christopher

Philip Clarke RIP: Over the summer we found out that Philip Clarke had died aged 96.  He used to live on Hydethorpe Road before moving to Little Sisters of the Poor in Vauxhall.  He remembered St Bede’s in his will.  Thank you Philip – it is only through bequests like yours that we can do any big jobs here in the parish complex.

Sister Micaela Olmedo: is sadly leaving our community here and is moving to Ciudad Real, south of Madrid.  We will never forget her final profession here at St Bede’s on October 2nd 2005.  Mother Provincial came from Madrid and the Papal Nuncio (Spanish at the time) officiated at the Mass.  Originally from Mexico, Sister came here as a junior sister about 10 years ago.

Welcome to Fr Martin Roestenburg who is a Premonstratensian Canon (sometimes called “Norbertines), born in Holland and has lived most of his life in Australia. He is now living in Rome not far from Fr Andrew.

Welcome to Fr Piotr Rosochacki:  who is a priest in the Crimea near Yalta.  Originally from Warsaw he is here to learn English.  They are both he & Fr Martin will be will us until the end of the month.
