17th Sunday OT (Old Rite: X Sunday after Pentecost)

OUR MAIN PHONE LINE: has been knocked out by the storms last Monday night – therefore whilst we await a repair, please use 020 8671 5366 if you require the Presbytery.

Last Newsletter of the Summer!  During the month of August the schools are out, we cease the 12.30 Mass on Sundays and many groups go on holiday.  In the same way, we do not have a newsletter and instead just have a posted list of the Mass times and intentions.  I hope you are all keeping cool and drinking plenty of water!  During that long cold and gloomy winter we never dreamt of a summer like this!  Please God you will all get an opportunity to rest and relax; but remember “there is no holiday from the spiritual life” so when you are away do check in to the local Church and attend Mass and please bring back a newsletter (if they are not also cancelling it in August!) as it is always interesting to see how other places do it.  We thank God for so many wonderful graces especially the ordination of Tom Lynch and the Confirmations, Holy Communions and forthcoming marriages.  Also we are grateful for the good OFSTED results at St Bede’s.  Have a safe and lovely summer.

Bunty & Ray Brooks:  were born in the parish over 9 decades ago and are moving down to Shoreham opposite Catherine, their daughter and near their grandchildren.  They were married here in 1952 (Fr Andrew preached 60 years later last year!)  Ray was a Professor of Endocrinology at St Thomas’ Hospital and was responsible for the discovery of testing anabolic steroids in athletes.  He and Bunty have 5 children, 16 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren!  We will miss you but will be in touch.

Last Week's Ordinations at St George's Cathedral:  The official photos of  Fr Tom & the other 4 priests can be seen on the Catholic Church (England & Wales) Flickr page (link below).  If anyone has photos of the Ordination or Fr Tom's first Masses, please forward to Fr Christopher and we will load onto the blog.

2nd Collection today is for ‘Day for Life’: This is the Day in the Church’s life dedicated to celebrating the Sacredness of Life.  The proceeds from the Day for Life collection provide core funding for the Linacre Centre for Healthcare ethics and to cover the cost of the materials for the Day for Life.  In addition grants will be made to support Catholic charities working in the particular field determined by the theme of the year.
