Pentecost Sunday (Old Rite: Whit Sunday)

Pentecost is the culmination of the whole paschal mystery.  If Christmas is “God with us”; if Good Friday & Easter is “God for us” then Pentecost is “God in us”.  The first Pentecost was the beginning of the Church but Pentecost is always happening; the grace of God is always on offer.  However we must make ourselves open to receive His Gifts.  Mother Mary, spouse of the Holy Spirit obtain for us this grace!

May Crowning & Procession: Next Sunday (26th), after the 10.45am Mass, there will be a ‘Bring & Share’ lunch in the club.  At 2pm, Our Lady’s Statue will be crowned & the procession will move out of the Church, praying the Holy Rosary.  Upon re-entering, the Litany of Loreto will be sung & the devotions will conclude with Benediction.  Wed 22nd 10am Rosary Procession & Crowning at St Bernadette’s School

Survive MIVA Appeal – this weekend: This charity exists to provide mobility in administering healthcare in the third world.  Requests from the “Missions” far exceed funds available, but their Allocations Committee (who are all returned missionaries & know the problems faced first hand) look to support outreach programmes which have been planned in collaboration & consultation with local communities in response to their needs.

UCM Table Top Sale today: 10.30am – 12.30pm with raffle, good-as-new & cakes for sale.  Please come along & support.

‘Special Sunday’ – 10.45am Mass: The Ordinary will be Esquivel’s Missa Ave Virgo Sanctissima. The Offertory Motet: Dum Complerentur by Victoria; the Communion Motet: Adoramus te, Christe by Giovanni Nanino.  The Mass will be sung by Cantores Missae under the direction of Charles Finch and kindly sponsored by The Latin Mass Society.

Goodbye to Fr Linus Clovis: who leaves us on Wednesday for St Lucia.  We hope to see him back here next April as our Easter preacher.

Gift Aid Scheme: The new envelopes will be available this weekend from Maria Chang our Gift Aid Coordinator.  This will be a good moment to join the scheme, to tell us of any changes in your contact details & most importantly, to check that you are still a taxpayer.  We are most grateful to all parishioners who take part in the scheme.  If you are not yet a member & are a UK taxpayer, please seriously consider joining the scheme, the Parish can claim back from the Inland Revenue 25p for every £1 you give us – at no cost or inconvenience to you!  Taxpayers who regularly put loose cash in the collection could be helping the Parish to maximise its much-needed income.  Please speak to Maria about setting up a Gift Aid arrangement (it only takes a couple of minutes) – or to find out more information.  The forms are also available on our blogsite to set up a standing order through your bank account.   Expenditure is pretty challenging - this last winter to heat the church and house has cost £9000, insurances costs us £5000.  Running a big house as you know is expensive, maintaining the whole physical plant is a constant challenge.  After the huge amount on club refurbishment and the new organ we are in increased need of your greater generosity.  Also please remember St Bede’s parish in your will! Bequests have helped us in the past to do necessary big projects like rewiring and redecoration.

Race Night: Saturday 8th June - doors open 7pm - first race 7.30pm.  Admission will be £3 (includes finger buffet; Bar will also be open).  Horses can be bought and named for £5.  This is being held in memory of Kane Gorny with funds raised going to AvMa - a charity which provides practical support to families who have lost loved ones as a result of medical accidents. Please contact Mick Cronin on 07825 557 261 to purchase tickets and horse or hand an envelope marked "Race Night" with money and your name to the Presbytery.
