Easter Sunday

EASTER: The culmination of Lent and Holy Week is of course Easter but our celebration cannot be exhausted in one day.  Therefore, Mother Church gives us a week's Octave when we celebrate more solemnly, and then 50 days until Pentecost (May 19th); so that we may truly savour and experience the implications of the Resurrection in our own lives.  Happy Easter to you all!   Fr Christopher B, Fr Simon, Fr Christopher E and Fr Linus Clovis.

NEW ORGAN: The new organ at St Bede's is the first installation in the UK from Magnus Organy of Sulech├│w, Poland.  Magnus are a new company, specialising primarily in organs for Catholic churches in Poland, though they have also just sent a large organ to the Catholic University in Santiago, Chile.  The sound is produced by a PC running the ground-breaking Hauptwerk "Virtual Pipe Organ" software, driven by MIDI signals from the Magnus organ console.  The organ you are now hearing in St Bede's is the 3-manual organ of the Old Independent Church in Haverhill, Suffolk, built by JJ Binns of Leeds in 1901, and rebuilt by Hill, Norman & Beard in 1992.  As the organist plays in the choir loft at St Bede's, he sees a photo-realistic graphic representation of the Haverhill organ console on touchscreen monitors placed either side of the keyboards (where the physical stop-jambs would normally be), so the stops are operated by touch rather than by pushing and pulling.  James also has the option of switching to the 1843 Stiehr-Mockers organ in the parish church of Romansviller, Alsace.
