1st Sunday of Lent

POPE BENEDICT XVI: On the telephone, Fr Andrew reported that the whole of Rome was bereaved.  All of us are shocked and saddened that such a humble Pope of outstanding eloquence and intelligent will resign on Thursday week.  We must all pray for him and for a worthy and able successor to lead the Church forwards.

LENTEN EXTRA DAILY MASS:  In the three-fold dimension of Lent (prayer, fasting & almsgiving), the first understands some sort of intensification of our spiritual life.  This past week a journalist from LBC rang about the Pope and was amazed that we had so many daily Masses!  These Masses are for you and we should be grateful that we have three (and on Thursdays five!) Masses every day.  During Lent we should try to go to at least one extra Mass in the week.  There we have provided for us in a short space of time the Holy word of God, an opportunity to go to Communion, an opportunity to pray, and an opportunity to step out of our normal routine to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet in which to rediscover a better perspective of our lives.  

WELCOME TO FR JAMES BRADLEY: He is a Priest of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham who became a Catholic in 2011 as part of the first wave of Anglican clergy who entered the Church under this provision. He serves as Communications Officer and Private Secretary to the Ordinary, Mgr Keith Newton, and visits parishes to speak about the work of the Ordinariate and to help raise funds.

MARDI GRAS BAZAAR REVIEW went well.  Our final total was £11,600 but the greatest problem was lack of people especially on the Saturday.  We need more people to support the Bazaar and some input from our schools as well.  Thank you for everybody who supported us in any way.  Next planning meeting is Tuesday 2nd July.

MGR LEO WHITE: has gone to New York until April.  On March 18th (eve of St Joseph’s) is his 84th birthday!  Thanks to him and Fr Maurizio OSA our Saturday evening Mass in Spanish continues. 

ST PATRICK’S NIGHT SUPPER: Saturday 7 for 7.30.  This will be organised by the Explorer Scouts to raise money towards the costs of their expedition to Portugal.  Give Scouts of Fr CB £10 to book place.

HAPPY HALF TERM: especially to the staff and pupils at our three schools.  How quiet the whole neighbourhood becomes!

YoF EVENT - 2 COMPUTER COURSES:  One day sessions presented by Deacon Paul Milligan at the CCF in Tooting Bec. ‘Building a PowerPoint presentation using Music & Video’ - Saturday 23rd February 10am – 1pm - bring your laptop or book one.  ‘Using PowerPoint in Sacramental Programmes’ – Saturday 2nd March 10am-1pm.  This session will be more demonstration based with content to take away. CHURCH CLEANERS ROTA – 22nd/23rd Feb: Teresa Ablett & Rita Ajuga. (Please Note: Baptism 11.30am)

CLEANERS - do we have your correct address?  If not - please write it down clearly and leave in the sacristy for for the parish secretary.  Rotas are sent out in June & December for the following 6 months - and a copy is pinned to the notice board at the back of the Church.  
Would you like to join the cleaners rota? - you only need to commit one Friday or Saturday morning (a couple of hours max) every three months 
Are you unable to clean for us anymore? - do you want to be taken off the rota - please let us know
As some people do not turn up for their allocated week, it is unfair for one person to be left to clean on their own - therefore we are looking to rearrange the rota to cover those spaces.

The Apostleship of the Sea SCHOOLS OFFICER: The Apostleship of the Sea (AoS) is the official charity of the Catholic Church that provides pastoral care to seafarers.   AoS is seeking an individual to engage with schools to raise awareness of seafarers and the work of AoS.  For an application pack or for more information contact John Green, on 07505 653801 or

For the last ten years the Catholics Bishops Conference has organised Parliamentary and Public Policy Internships for recently graduated Catholics.  This year we are looking to offer at least 6 internships:  Three interns will be placed with Christian MPs at Westminster, two in public policy with CAFOD and one in a media internship in Archbishop’s House Westminster.
