The Baptism of the Lord (Old Rite: Holy Family, Jesus, Mary & Joseph)

WHITE FLOWER APPEAL: The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children will be holding its annual appeal this weekend. In common with the Catholic Church, SPUC defends and upholds the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death. The Society’s work covers a wide spectrum of pro-life, pro-family issues. It works to protect unborn children from abortion and defends the disabled, elderly and incapacitated from euthanasia and assisted suicide. SPUC also provide trained speakers for schools and offers pro-life support for teachers, parents and medical professionals. Please give generously to this worthy cause which depends entirely on your support. 

CHURCH UNITY OCTAVE: Each year the Church observes eight days’ prayer for Christian unity.  The week runs from the Friday 18th to the 25th January, which is the feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle.

AFRICAN & CARIBBEAN MEETING: Today after 9.30 Mass

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION: Today we will begin our preparations with a children’s meeting after 9.30am Mass.  Classes in St Bernadette’s will begin on Thursday and next Sunday we will have a meeting for all the Parents in the club after 9.30am Mass.  It is important for parents and/or guardians to take an active role in helping your child to prepare for the sacraments of Confession & Communion.  

CONFIRMATION 2013: Applications are welcome from anyone who has not been confirmed.  They must be in Year 8 or above.  Pick up a purple form today – on the table in the porch - as the closing date for applications will be soon!  Bishop Patrick Lynch will come here on May 12th 

WELCOME TO FR KIDANE AND THE ERITREAN & ETHOPIAN COMMUNITY: The 12.30pm Mass today will be in celebration of their Christmas which was last Monday (7th January).    

APF BOXES: We apologise for the delay in returning the APF boxes – this has been due to sickness but hopefully they will soon be counted and returned.  Thank you for your patience.

‘YoF’ EVENT” – CREDO GROUP: The Credo group starts 1st February.  It will meet each month on the First Friday at 6.30pm and will be followed by ‘First Friday devotions’. Please see Fr Simon or Mr Washington Schubert for more information.

YEAR OF FAITH EVENT - SCHOOL OF FAITH (CCF - Tooting Bec): A series of study seminars on the first part of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, with nationally acclaimed speakers, including Archbishop Peter.  The series began on Wednesday 9th January, and will take place every Wednesday 7:30pm, at the diocesan Centre for Catholic Formation up to 20th March.  There will also be two Saturday sessions on 23rd March.  The course costs £50 per person for all lectures or £8 per lecture, including a light meal.  To register for all or some of the lectures, visit Fr Christopher B will be attending from this week.  A link has now been added to our blog site for the CCF so you can keep up to date on their events during the Year of Faith.   

YEAR OF FAITH EVENT - 'FAITH AND THE INTERNET' (CCF - Tooting Bec): Saturday 2nd February 11am-4pm.  A one day session led by Deacon Paul Milligan on using the internet as a resource and as a means of communicating the faith.  No charge, but please book with the CCF.
