4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

This coming Thursday, 40 days after Christmas is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord which is also the Purification of our Blessed Lady. In England we call it "Candlemas" as that is the day we bless the candles. This marks the complete end of the Christmas season and it is for Christians the celebration of light and illumination. The next day with the newly blessed candles, on the feast of St Blaise we administer the blessing of throats.
